If the breeder is unwilling to show you the puppies' parents or hesitates to answer your questions about the conditions and methods of breeding, you are dealing with a backyard breeder and have every reason to be suspicious. It is a good idea to look for herding breeders, show breeders, or obedience and agility breeders, if you are up to buying a Border Collie puppy. In this case, you are sure to get much information about the breed, about the care and training, health issues and possible problems.
Since overpopulation of dogs is a problem that should be solved sooner than later, potential dog owners mustn't encourage irresponsibility of some breeders who breed for profit or out of mere interest.
